FUNDING BOOST FOR RURAL BROADBAND
€1 million challenge fund to improve countrywide coverage
Rural communities will be able to bid for a share of a million-Euro fund to bring enhanced broadband to their areas. The new investment which is being delivered by the LEADER 2007-2013 programme which supports small-scale, community driven projects in rural areas, aims to improve coverage and bring faster broadband to rural communities.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar 1 March 2010 Cathrannas Nis first to benefit from LEADER Innse Gall funding The community grant programme LEADER Innse Gall recently awarded the sum of £25,852 to Carthannas Nis. This is the first grant payment that LEADER Innse Gall has paid out from the 2007-13 programme. The money will be spent on the development of their shop which will sell household goods, furniture and clothing and the installation of a commercial launderette which in turns provides the community with a new service and provides part time work in the area. It is hoped that a 6Kw wind turbine will be eventually erected to assist with running costs whilst allowing the facility to contribute to environmental policies. |

3 March 2009 Rural Development Programme Open For ApplicationsThe LEADER Innse Gall programme is open for enquiries and applications from today.
LEADER is part of the SRDP (Scottish Rural Development Programme) allocation and is a
bottom up method of delivering support for rural development. Support is primarily aimed at
small-scale, community-driven projects that are pilot and innovative in nature. Vitally the
benefits and participation of the local community in the project is fundamental to the LEADER
ethos. |
